First start of the day sucks, after that OK
I have an '88 V6 throwing a code 22 at me (coolant temp sensor) that has trouble starting for the first time every day, but thereafter gets much better. When I go to start in the AM, the starter motor and ignition sound fine, just the engine barely gets going and hangs out around 50-100rpm inconsistently, sputtering and just barely staying alive (and sometimes dying on me). I usually floor it to get the rpm up but even that takes a 5-6 seconds before the rpm reaches around 8-900. Once it's at about normal idle speed, everything goes back to normal and the truck revs up and idles normally (well, normally for this truck). After i've gone through this once, i can start it all I want normally without any trouble but if it sits for longer than 8 hours or so, I have to go through the whole low rpm song and dance again. I tried replacing the coolant temp sensor and it's still throwing a 22 so I was thinking maybe the cold start injector?? Any ideas much appreciated
Thanks

See if the fuel pump test jumper makes any difference:

If so, it may be the the CO relay is not getting kicked on with the starter and when you try and start after 8 hrs. the residual fuel pressure may have dropped so low that the engine is not getting enough fuel pressure and flow and it takes a few seconds if rough running before the pump builds sufficient pressure.
