Disconnecting front driveshaft

I just picked up a 91 4runner with the 3.0/5speed. After a couple weeks of driving I've realized that the gas mileage is crap!!

I'm wondering of there is any harm in disconnecting the front drive shaft for some better as mileage while im just commuting and waiting to buy some manual locking hubs!

Any help would be great, thanks guys!

ADD I guess. Dont waste your time. Even without the front drive shaft your still turning your front axles. I would look other places for better mileage, like a good tune up and driving habits make more difference then about anything.

My 2 cents says the best mileage improvement beyond a good tune-up is an electric fan instead of the fan clutch setup. Quieter too.
