Camo,

I'm not sure about the angle, but I read one idea that may help you. Some folks cut the triangular flange plus the first couple of inches of the crossover pipe off the passenger side of the crossover. Those first couple of inches include the bend that routes the pipe behind the engine. That triangular flange can be rotated or "clocked" then bolted back on the manifold to have that bend point downward instead. The exhaust shop can take it from there straight to your new muffler.

The driver's side manifold is irregular and the flange cannot be rotated. Cut the flange off the crossover and use it to fab a block plate where it bolts on the driver's side manifold. This also allows you to re-use the original down pipe and save some $$.

Good luck with it.

WJ

going to be updating this thread soon, well.....as soon as i get the motor in the truck and running!

i have about a 14" piece of pipe for the passenger side manifold, that has been bent to what LOOKS like the perfect angle...but i'm not positive yet because i can't set the motor into the bay yet......my cherry picker on the back of my trailer has crapped out and won't lift the motor past the grille

waiting on a couple of sensors...and that's IT...

i can't seem to get these sensors anywhere, people either are too lazy to get them for me, want to sell me the WHOLE MOTOR, or the sensors are already broken, just like mine.

yea sure if ya wanted to lose a lot of bottom end torque

THAT pic..is looking up from the bottom of the truck towards the passenger side head..as you can see it clears everything perfectly...however if i keep running the pipe at that particular angle, it will run into the front sway bar lol..so i'll have to lessen the angle a little bit..maybe bent the pipe out about 1" or 1/2".

the black is roughly the centerline of the pipe right now...the RED line is where the centerline needs to be!

so i'll be going in for exhaust work here pretty soon...

custom crossover running under the tranny, tucked up real nice..maybe some type of heat wrap or something ON THE TRANNY...and i'll probably have a Y installed, maybe the O2 sensor after that...still not sure if it's REQUIRED on my 3VZ yet. gonna unplug it and see what happens

it's going to end up with a magnaflow 14" and a turndown (for now, just cuz it's cheaper)...all 2.25" pipe.

if anyone has any questions feel free to ask and pick my brain!

i already know i'm going to have some leakes at the manifolds...mainly on the driverside.....couldn't get everything bolted up all the way because of a broken stud.

i was just wondering what your final cost was in this project? is it worth the trouble? i'm considering doing the exhaust for some of the same reasons-> heat! also, the engine runs pretty damn good for what it is, and will be hard to part with. i didn't know what i was getting into until AFTER i was into rebuilding this engine- bored .20 over ported/polished heads...
to make it breathe a little better, i was gonna do the headers. then a 3.4 swap... to have something to tinker with...
i'm just gonna save the money for a 98 or newer with the factory blower!

my 4R is a 3.don't know/auto/factory 4.56's/isr mod/series 40 flowmaster.

it came out to be around about $130 total.

i let the exhaust shop keep the cat, so he did my entire exhaust with a 14" magnaflow for $100.

i'm gonna be throwing a different muffler on there sometime i imagine, and my custom crossover will be upgraded from 2" (what it is now ) to 2.25" at the same time i get my new muffler.

was it worth it? i honestly don't know, i didn't get to drive my truck with the factory crossover (bought it with a blown motor) my truck doesn't run hot though that's for sure,
