Your oil pan itself doesn't have a "seal", per se. It's held in place by FIPG (Form In Place Gasket) material. I used http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...sket_Maker.htm on mine. Remove the old stuff from the block and pan with a putty knife and Scotch Brite pads. Then run a bead all around the perimeter.

Replacing the gasket is simple and using FIPG is the proper way to do it. Using a cork gasket can work but is more likely to leak again.

The hardest part is removing what needs to be removed in order to drop the pan. On a 2wd theres no way around it. My truck has a 4" lift so I didn't need to remove any front suspension parts in order to replace the gasket.

There is a FSM in a PDF form stickied at the top of this forum section that explains what all needs to be done.

drain oil, remove the cross member, its the big metal piece that goes across the pan, then drop the pan and clean it up and fipg like robD said.

x2 on the FSM

yours will be less of a hassle then a 4x4 4runner.

use the sealant not the cork seal and don't put too much on by the dip stick.
