93' AFM on an 86' (both 22re)

My question is:
are the late 22re ie my 93's AFM compatible with the older 22re's ie like my 86? Is there any reason I cannot use my 93' afm on my 86'......

lol well I figure since the 82' supra afm is plug in play for both they should interchange
however there must be some reason toyota switched styles......and they are a different part number.
