before you drop the tranny, slide it back about six inches to keep from hitting the input shaft on the clutch

Thanks guys you are all the best. Hunting season has kind of put a bit of a hold on this for a few days plus the flu has kicked the sh@! out of me but feeling better and deer are not moving so going to work on it now. I will keep you posted and am sure there will be more questions to come

So I go tthe drive shafts off and pulled the starter! now on an earlier post I was thinking that I hit a bird or something well after I pulled the starter off I found a bunch of crap and it looks like burnt and destoryed belt parts?? Does the clutch or anyting in that part of the tranny have belts? I am guessing not!!! What about the clutch disc would it be made out of some kind of fiber? Still going ahead with the tranny removal looks like the last guy's made a mess so trying to make that better. I will post some pic of the hot rod and the progress as I get to it. Kind of cold here and no heat in the shop so work has once again slowed down. -28C here.

The only thing I could think of inside the bell housing that looks like a shredded belt would be the clutch disc itself. The disc has a kinda fibrous friction surface on the outer part of each side... but I dunno if that would look like a messed up belt if it was ruined.

How would it get ruined anyways? Maybe the PO left some crap in the bell housing that he shouldn't have?
