86 4runner Auto Trans Starter question
Hi there folks, i am working on an 86 4Runner with Auto Transmission and am looking for the original wire that goes to the starter solenoid. The vehicle has a winch solenoid which bypasses the original system and i would like to return it to stock. I see no starter Relay bolted to the Right inner fender on or plug for it in harness. From what i can find so far is that the Auto transmission does not have a Starter relay but a PNP switch..is this correct? Where is the original wire for the starter solenoid be located? (position on harness). Can someone who has a 22RE Auto or know how the starter solenoid is engaged please help!!! The wire is there somewhere maybe cut off short..i just cant find it!!
Thanks.
Thanks.

86 trucks and 4Runners don`t have a starter relay, the power comes directly from the ignition switch to the starter. This set up causes a lot of wear on the contacts in the ignition switch, at witch point can cause your truck not to start. The fix for that is to install a relay to handle the load instead of the ignition switch. That sounds like what the previous owner did to your truck, and if it works alright you should leave it as is.

Great, so 86 MT and AT trucks do not have a starter relay correct? This one I have has a winch solenoid installed that runs from starter to battery. The original wire that runs to the Starter solenoid is what I cannot find. So I am assuming its in the harness on the passenger side fender somewhere. The truck had a bad engine so. I havnt seen it run yet. I just need to find the original starter solenoid wire and maybe use the winch solenoid that was installed to trigger the starter solenoid or should I use a relay and remove the solenoid?
Cheers.
Cheers.

You can put it all back to the way it way originally, or you can buy a hot start kit from painless wiring. It still sounds to me like the previous has installed his version of a hot start kit by using the winch relay, so look and see if the wire for the starter is connected to the relay.

My problem is that I cannot find the original startrer relay wire. Will it be in the transmission or main harness. It may have been cut and stuffed back in the harness.

I did the hot shot starter mod to my 86 Auto 4runner. You do not have a starter relay, there for you do not have a wire for it. If you are looking for the original starter siginal wire then it goes to the relay that was added when the starter mod was done.

The original owner tried to start car from under hood with a wrench. No starter signal wire in sight. All I need to do is find its location either in the Transmission or main wire harness. Can you tell me where the signal wire in you 86 Auto comes out of the harness. That would solve all my problems.
Thanks.
Thanks.
