First, I am new to this forum. Having not worked on many Toyota engines, I have a question. My son's 3.0L 3VZ-E had the common problem of a blown head gasket. As has been stated throughout the forum, pistons and cylinder walls were also damaged. New oversized pistons were installed on the connecting rods by a machine shop my son found (I am not sure about the quality of their work). So: This question is to determine if they installed the pistons on the connecting rods correctly. On the left bank, what direction does the connecting rod oil hole for spraying the cylinder walls go. Does it face the center of the engine or the outside? Do the rod markings determine the front of the piston rod? I have attached some pictures of the rod to help illustrate.

I can see that they torched those rods to remove the pins. I'm no expert, but I woudn't have done that. Nor is it the factory recommended procedure for removing them.

That's what I was looking for. The Y5 is the marking and the pistons are pressed on with the proper alignment. As to torching the rods..................well can't comment on that. I'm just putting it together.

It may or may not be any cause for concern. All I know is they didn't come from the factory like that. And it seems a little unnecessary...especially having been done in a machine shop. Where one would assume the proper tools/equipment to do it without the application of intensely high heat, would be readily at hand. I can't help but call it just being plain lazy...cutting corners...and the like.
