I have a 86 4runner that im wiring for a trailer. ive searched and got the wiring that plugs into the back of the taillights. I cant find a way to get the wiring under the truck.ive pulled up the mat in the bed and I cant find any holes to run the wiring down. any help appreciated

I have not rewired mine yet but the old wires are in place. The wires run behind the plastic panel on the driver's side and slip through the weep hole. The green wire runs under the mat/ carpet to the passenger side into the passenger taillight behind the plastic panel. I had an '88 someone else wired and it was done the same way. I think you have to run from the bottom through the hole and then plug it in because the four flat will not fit through the weep hole. Sorry no pix. I'm out of town from the old Runner. I just searched for pictures and can't find any. If you're still lost I can take pictures on Monday.

edit: I just remembered seeing a 4Runner where the four flat came out from the plastic compartment and stayed in the cargo area. When needed it was pulled out the tailgate. I would think it got pinched. It seems kind of sloppy but if you need to tow today try that.

My 87 has a hole on each side below the tail light area, with a grommet. IIRC you can see them with the light assembly out.

Good. Now, after reading what nervo said, I cut a little notch in one side so the four way flat would go down that hole.

I didnt have to cut anything I took the factory boot out on the drivers side behind the light. theres already wiring going down there was just enough room to get the 4flat and the stock wires through
