1991 Pickup Instrument Cluster question
Hi there,
So a few months ago the dash lights of my 1991 Pickup went out. I was reading some of the threads and i went for the easy way first. I did check if my tail lights are working and they do work. I did check the fuses, not a problem since not a single one was blown.
So i went on to remove the dashboard and straight to the bulbs, they were both blown. I was reading that my model takes the 194G so while i was at it i bought some LEDs just to make things a little fancier. Well, they do not work. I did try to switch bulbs around, having both 194 and 2 LEDs, i did notice thought that even if i put a regular incandescent 194 in the background illumination socket and plug everything back it still doesn't work.
The LEDs work, i tried to put them on the turn signal socket and the arrow was bright blue when tested. I tried to swap the black twist-caps but nothing, those contacts seem to be worn out on the circuit board (i'm not an expert, i just thought the second possible chance that made sense to me).
Looking online, according to Toyota Parts Factory the circuit board alone is being discontinued.
Looking on ebay for a cluster, i found this one while my IC is http://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-89-1990-90-1991-91TOYOTA-4RUNNER-PICKUP-22RE-INSTRUMENT-GAUGE-CLUSTER-/321380501167?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ad3c546af&vxp=mtr
Now, i don't know if i'll have to replace my instrument cluster since the lights on it aren't working (just the background ones, everything else works) but in that case, could i just do a swap with a more "complete" IC that includes the tach, battery level and oil pressure gauge?
Is there anything i have to do before the swap to make sure everything works? With a new (used in good working condition) unit hopefully the lights will work too but what about everything else?
I'm sorry for the long post, i'm not an expert and i'm just trying to make it look a little better.
If anyone could help me clarify some things it would be much appreciated.
Thank you!
