Timing chain broke, bent valves certain?
My 84-89 truck was idling in the driveway and died. No unusual sounds, bangs or otherwise. Such a quiet death I thought for certain it was electrical. Long story short, I pulled off the timing cover and found a broken chain dangling off of the cam gear. One of the sproket teeth on the crank broke off, but the long chain guide bit the dust too. Could this be to blame for the busted tooth or do I most certainly have bent valves? I opted to pull the chain cover without pulling the head off so far...any tests I can do at this point to ensure good valves?? Thanks

A leak down compression test might do it but you, will have to have the timing lined up and another chain on there. You are better off just pulling the head and taking it to the shop and having it redone and checked. How many miles are on it?

the 3vze is a non interference engine, meaning that if you break the belt the valves have enough clearence if you have a stock cam, idk about the 22-re... no clue.

22re + timing chain break = destruction
A leak-down test = Is a test used to tell where compression (air in the cylinder) is leaking from. Close the valves, put the piston your testing at the top, fill with air, and look at the gauge and see if its leaking (little is normal) and if you can hear air hissing out of the intake, suspect intake valves. Hissing out of exhaust, then the exhaust valves. Hissing out of the oil cap, then rings.

22 series engines are absolutly interferance engines .. and valve stems are super easy to bend ... I would lay money on 2 bent valves , and pistons will be fine
I have bent a valve turning the crank over by hand (socket & ratchet)
