i got a taurus fan for my 22re and made some brackets for it so it would mount to the stock radiator, but when i put it on the car the back of the fan barely touches the power steering belt. So i was wondering how have you mounted yours to get it to work?

I have a 1983 Toyota 4x4 truck and I have a Taurus fan mounted onto my stock radiator shroud using custom mounting brackets. The clearance is tight but the fan motor never hits.

I mounted the drivers side directly to the rad no brackets..

and use a couple of fan mounts that go through the rad and fan on the top side..

Bottom of the fan rests on the rad...

been good so far..

a picture might be helpful, but have you tried mounting it "upside-down"? that might change things a bit

i'm putting in a mercury villager fan, and am going to try and integrate it into the stock shroud. if that doesn't work, then i'll just mod it up to fit the radiator, and trim if/where necessary

just use the the fans shroud.. it mounted perfectly with a little modding

go to home depot and get some extruded aluminum angle for the brackets. Lay the fan on a flat surface and determine how much plastic you can remove until you have about a 1/4" before the fan center interferes with the radiator. i used JB weld and pop-rivets to attach the aluminum to the fan shroud, then bolted that to the stock fan shroud locations.
It will be a tight fit, and IIRC, i needed to remove my idler pulley to get theassembly in, then i reinstalled the pulley....fan motor never touches.
Note: i Used a Mercury Villager fan, same as the Taurus, but a different shroud. There is a thread around here that may shed some light on your dilema

rb- i'm gonna have to take a look at your set-up (is it for one of the runners or the 92? i forget)

its for the Runner, but the 92 may get one soon also....same excact principle. Infact, the efan swap originally went into the 87 22re engine bay, before it found its way over to the more rust free 4Wallet. I have a few pictures of the fan installed, but not before, and really from the pictures you can't see anything.
Look at your radiator very closely, does the top tilt away from the core support and toward the valve cover? Does your new radiator follow the same tilt, hopefully it doesn't so that you will have additional room to instal the fan. PM me and ill send you my digits if you want to chat about it.

I totally removed the Ford factory shroud and just used the motor and fan. Like I said in my earlier post, I made custom brackets and mounted onto my stock Toyota shroud.

No, I do not have pics but all I did was take 3/4" x 1/8" strap (3) bent one end 90 degrees and formed the end to match the shroud inside radius and matched the other end to fit on the fan motor mounting bolts. I bolted everything together using SS socket type Buttonhead bolts for clearance. The fan does not vibrate and there is about 1" clearance between the fan motor and my billet aluminum under drive water pump pulley. The fan blade to radiator clearance is about 1/4". I have run this particular unit for 10 years + without any problems.
