take out 86/ret and put in 85/re

I have a 86 pickup and the motor blew up after a week , its a 22ret i think thats what it is since it has the turbo, for 650 bucks the wrecking yard has a 22re out of a 85 4 runner. now my question is can this be easily swapped into my truck, my mechanic buddies say yes but the guy at the wrecking yard says it might not work because of the computers injection read wont match, he says he takes off the intake and all the other stuff and i just get the engine and to use my intake manifold , will this work? what i want to do is just swap engines entirely not use the turbo and make it an easy swap for cheap so i can get back on the road, unless it will work easily putting the turbo and the turbo motors intake manifold on the 4 runners 22re. any know how or done it before info would help a bunch im not a mechanic but have tinkered around with motors and rebuilt vw engines in the past so im confident i can do the labor with maybe just a little help from some friends if i need it. just dont have the money right now to buy any thing new or pay anyone to do it ....(paying for a wedding) any way thanks.......

swap

I'm in the same situation, although I ended up with a donor 87 truck (frame is toast) with a good engine/tranny for swap to my 86 that currently has a blown 22rte, with the rest of the truck in decent shape.

I've debated a lot on how this will be accomplished in the easiest way possible. I think I will pull the entire 22re and swap the whole engine after pulling the entire 22rte. I think saving components with the swapped engine is a good idea, provided they are working correctly.

My situation is further complicated in the fact that I believe my 22rte was put in a non 22rte truck orginally - as in the previous owner built a turbo truck from regular. No idea on how accurate I am on this... but it leads to further questions on using the "22rte" wiring harness etc.

In short, if you were to swap the entire donor 22re into your engine bay thats setup for a 22rte, you will have some interesting wiring to figure out, there should a little bit less of it!

I plan on putting up a build post for my work... but I have yet to turn any tools.

Good luck with the swap!
