i think i'm burning oil....on a rebuilt motor?
ok, i got the truck a cpl months ago and i've been slowly but surely going through it addressing all the little things....new clutch, clutch/brake masters, etc.......... well, since its becoming more and more road worthy i've been driveing it more.
most recently this wknd, about 500 miles, fwy, mountain passes...pushed it about 70 plus (guessing, haven't fixed the speedo yet). and noticed i was down some oil (i've noticed this before after driveing a few days, short trips) but this confirmed it. down about 3/4 of a quart or so!
i have paperwork showing a motor rebuilt (its a 22re btw) about 2yrs ago and i'm guessing it has less then 30k on it and should have been driven easy and maintained during that time.
i have no oil leaks and no oil in the antifreeze. i don't see smoke and passed emissions with a cherry bomb and no cat (pls do a search for flames on the no cat thing first before you even mention it).
so my question is.... is this normal? doesn't seem like it should be to me. whats going on here? i have yet to test the compression but truck pulls up mountain passes in 5th!

If it pulls up mountain passes in fifth I'd say you're pretty lucky. Both the 22re's I used to have couldn't top 60 in 4th going up a hill let alone a mountain pass! Maybe it just needs some new valve seals. Try running a thicker oil in it like 20W50 and see how it does. The 22r series motors called for 20W50 from the factory in the eighties anyways.
