How much weight can the gutters safely take?
I just bought a cab rack...con ferr (very STOUT) and its like 3ftbyalmost 4ft with bulldog brackets. It weighs a little more than i would have like to...i estimate this at around 45 but its burly and looks nice.
Heres a pic of it mounted on the previous owners rig, it does not look that big but it is.
My question to you guys, How much weight can the gutters safely support? BTW...I have a excab w/ sunroof
I was thinking up to a 100 lbs including the rach but i really dont wanna push it and end up tearing my gutters up. The last resort is that i can fab up 4 metal legs to the ends of the two crossmembers with rubber at the ends to help.

Hmm... I personally wouldn't stick that much weight on those gutters. But one thing you have to understand is that the hundred pounds you're lugging is distributed amongst the mounting points of the rack. So your gutters will only get 25 lbs at each mounting point.
The mounts on the front are located at the "gutter curve" and will take most of the weight. The arch is famously known to take plenty of abuse (think about the first series of commercials for the new VW beetle: the arch bridge). I'd be more worried about the rear mounts. You could probably fab up gussets or other reinforcement pieces for the rear area of the gutter, its the getting it to look pretty that can be a PITA.
Be sure and post us a pic for when she's all mounted up. I have a nxtra cab and wouldn't mind something like that (but perhaps made from aluminum).

Con Ferr isn't around anymore if I'm not mistaken, and there's a lot of guys out there who I know wish they had the same rack. If you know where to get them you should let everyone know!
Does that rack have slats to support weight on the rack itself or is the load supported by the roof?
