Frame rust on first gens

Whats the story with the 1st gen 4runner frames. Are they trouble in a place like NH with all the salt? I have heard they are notorious for rusting out. I dont want another frame with an a bunch of holes in it.

All Toyota frames up here in the Northeast suffer from rust (my 1989 pickup is about to break in half)! Any Toyotas from first gen pickups to the newer Tacomas (although they ruled out the Tacomas as being a manufacturing defect) have frames that will rust sooner or later. I suggest getting a frame/truck from the Soutwest and then using a rust reventative (POR15) on it before you drive it. It also helps to make sure no dirt stays in the frame during the warmer months either by pressure washing them the best you could.

I'm not trying to sound negative towards Toyota, but everyone I owned suffers from a rusty frame. The 1995 Toyota pickup I just bought has NO RUST on the frame (I'll be coating it with POR15 after I get done with the welding (SAS).

I thought that everything ferrous in the NE is rusted up?

But seriously, I don't think that the Toyotas rust out any worse than any other truck/car that is driven on salted roads all winter every year for 10, 15 or 20 years. The beds might be since many were shipped unpainted when imported, then painted in the US to avoid a "completed vehicle tax" (rumor)
