Oh yeah, I had the same problem before deciding to buy back my gold one. My 89 was running great, I had just lifted the Tacoma and bought the shell, so why did I need to buy back the 84? Because I could, and I wanted to.
As it turns out, my girlfriend's car took a dive, so I "gave" her the 89 to drive until she gets a new car(hoping its an FJ)

Well, I don't think I would beat it. I already have a '85 4runner for that. And, yeah, extra body panels are always a plus.
Well, the update~
The guy isn't coming down on the price (and actually, I haven't really pressed him to do so) but I did goto the bank and have cash in pocket.
I'm planning on picking it up next weekend.

Well, I bought it for slightly less than asking price, mainly due to a new dent in the front drivers fender. Drove it about 40 miles to the farm, most of it on the interstate. The vehicle accelerates and holds 70 miles per hour with no problem and it stops very well also. The AC sort of works (I bet a charge would fix it) and it's got some fairly new tires.
Bad: Numerous dings and one fender dent and a fair bit of rust under the wheel well trim and the tailgate is shot. Rear window isn't working, nor is the emergency brake.
Just turned over 100K miles. I did check the frame and no cracks or holes and I couldn't jab a screwdrive thru it in the typical bad spots but significant surface rust on the frame. Like, maybe 116".

Thanks, I'm pretty happy about it. I was going to put some $ into the Grey 4runner but I like this one ALOT better.
Next decision is whether to just sell the grey 4runner as it, or fix the head gasket and sell it running and driveable or keep it for a parts vehicle. I'd like a parts vehicle but aside from the head gasket, it's pretty nice (i.e. less rust than the gold one). I think I'll be selling it, just don't have the room for all these Toys. And my Ford work truck. And my ZR2. That's 5 vehicles and I live in the city!

UPDATE:
Absolutely nothing. If I let another '85 4Runner sit and rot away, I'm not going to buy any more, at all. Grrr.
EDIT: Oh wait, I did change the diff and put in 4.56 gears with a Quik-Loc in the back. Did that in preparation for a new set of Interco Truxus MT's (31x10.5), those are still sitting in the garage.
