Bed Swap..?
Alright, I am looking at doing a bed swap. I have read plenty of pages on this subject but could not get a definite answer for my year. I am looking into swapping a 2wd bed from a regular cab 86 onto an 85 4wd extended cab...? Possible? How much fab work if any? Thanks guys.

I'm running an 84/85 2wd bed on my 84 regular cab 4x4. Fits fine, but you lose the flares on the side. I managed to squeak 33x10.5 tires under them too.
I'd imagine the 86 box would be similar. Just measure up the centerline of the wheel arch and compare to yours. If it's different, then it becomes a lot of work to bob the bed at the front.

That's what I was thinking for the most part. I was just wondering if the bed mounts would line up from a regular cab to an extended cab. I am starting to think they would not. Thanks for the help.

Yes they will line up! THe difference between a standard cab and xtracab truck is in the frame length and NOT the bed size. An extra cab truck uses a long bed frame, but with a stretched out cab and a short bed... instead of a normal cab and longbed.
SO, a shortbed off a short wheel base frame will fit the xtracab's frame. Just fine.
As pointed out, because you're using the 2WD bed on a 4x4... some trimming may be required for proper installation
