Wow that cylinder looks awful - glad you were able to limp home!
I say save the truck - with the Carbed engine or whatever you can do under budget. Sounds like you have a sane approach and agree with all of us about saving it

Progress finally made!
I have the 20r engine in. The valve cover had cracks so I used the valve cover from the 22rec. I still have all the do-dads to hook up. The engine is from a California emissions truck, so the carb is bristling with vacuum ports.
I replaced the in-tank EFI fuel pump with a piece of copper water line tube. The end had to be turned smaller to fit the filter screen. i'm actually glad i went this route as when cleaning the fuel tank pickup assembly, i located four pinholes in the return line. fuel has been seeping out for some time.
In order to fit my budget, i opted to go with the Chevy coil/igniter solution.
