Yeah Outsane, I hear ya... that's why I threw in my 83... and I figured, like yours, maybe his SFA would end up with a lil rubadub! lol.

Howzit in SD? Coolin off? Was supposed to hit some surf in Cardiff last week, but was stuck working out my oil leaks! Grrrr! Bet the sea there's around 65 still? ....maybe not, lol.

PS> Any tire shop can tell you in 2 minutes without much effort at all, just how much range you have to play with. Maybe 30x9.5's would serve you just fine? Might be better than lifting, etc., or banging out the fenderwells?

I love SD.. it cooled off a bit.. going to be a little warm here on wed.. but not too bad..Water has been cold all summer..

I'll get 33's one of these days, so more banging.. I don't want to be any taller and more likely to flip.

the stock push pull 79-85 SA steering leaves much to be desired. Converting to high steer was about the best $400 ($250 high steer kit, $100 IFS box, $39 box mount + a few $$ for shipping) investment I have made on my truck. The steering is so much more positive using the IFS box.

Hysteer... i have heard of this but again i am a rock when it comes to suspensions, tried searching, but didnt come out with any real answers.

Can hysteer be used on IFS AND a SFA? I have an 84 pickup with a lift, no idea how much, prolly bout 3-4", and like you said when you hit the brakes, for me, it pulls to the right hard! I figured it was the brakes. but you confirmed its not prolly. 84 pickup, 3-4" lift (only had it a couple months) 33" BF A/T's mud terrains.

What actually causes the pull to the right when you brake with a lift?

Is there another way to correcting the steering problem when braking? is it worth it if its not a daily driver?

do you have the traction bar still mounted or did you take it off..

It mounts from the frame to the axle, its on the drivers side

FWIW I have some 8 inch springs on my 85 and the drop down steering drag link. I have no darting or steering problems and it has been like this for about 10 years or so. Maybe you guys need to adjust up your back brakes where they work. Based on my experience, I see no need to spend that money when it is used primarily in the mud or on the road. Maybe rock crawling, but normal to just mudding, not worth it to me anyway.

Go Hysteer!! I have a 5" lift on the 85' runner, on 37" TSL boggers and it came with stock steering with a dropped drag link. I didnt break anything, but steering was outright sloppy with the stock setup. Hysteer fixed that and gave me more flex with the removal of the Torque rod. It is worth every penny if you have a lift, imo.

i just googled traction bar toyota and looked at some pictures. I cant be for sure, but i dont remember ever seeing anything like that on mine. You said its on the drivers side outsane? would that missing cause this?

Enojoyed reading up on the post of the 84-85 solid axles 22re's. My brother and I shared one in high school, I cant believe we didn't kill it. It was parked in a shed after I received a company truck, and set idle for nearly 12 years inm storage. My son now is 13 years old and we have been trying to get it running which we have, after 3 fuel pumps several filters reworking all the injectors etc its been a real money pit!.. Now we have it running! well i might add! but its time to sure up the suspension brakes etc. to get ready for him in a year or so. Looking into a slight lift for larger tires and enhansing the stability of the genral drivability if thats a word. Somebody shoot straight and to the point about what we should do to accomplish improving this....lift, suspension, drivability. Thanks!
