84 pickup 22R 104k - engine hesitation
I have an 84' 22R pick-up and under light acceleration the truck hesitates. It's really noticable in 1st and 2nd gears. I've replaced the fuel filter twice, the spark plugs, wires, belt, and cleaned the carb. I've also used the fuel additive stuff a couple of times. I'm working on buying a tach so I can check the idle RPM. That's another story.
Other than that, the truck runs great.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I have over a dozen 22r carbs that all do the same thing. They stumble or hesitate on acceleration. The secondary throttle plate sticks shut from sitting and no amount of WD40 or manual operation will completely free it up.
It's the aluminum corrosion around plates shaft. Other causes of hesitation maybe fixed with a rebuild kit but expect poor gas mileage.
Carb with secondary hesitation $15.00 Good road tested carb $100.

Thanks for the reply. So I should basically just live with the hesitation then?
I get about 22-23 MGP ( I did get as high as 24-25 maybe twice) is that normal for that engine? I have the 2WD pick-up.

That mileage would be normal for a 4x4. I would expect 28 - 32 MPG on a 2x4.
A good used carb would pay for itself in about a year. I get them by exchange off motors being exported.
