Just dont go too big. Add a leaf would probably be better. Reason is you have to put a huge shackle on to get very little lift and then they hit ledges and make your suspension less stable. Shackle size is mainly to make sure your springs can cycle correctly. Too short a shacke wont let the rear spring eye travel back far enough to let the spring compress all the way and too long is just well unnecessary and more flimsy.

its just going to make your pinion angle suck. shackles are best used in conjunction with different springs and an aftermarket front spring hanger.
sure, it might work. but i'd take a BFH to your inner fender pinch weld first. thats what i did, anyway.

possibly, but it still wasn't the question at hand. the rear and front are two different animals when talking about shackles. and 90% of the time its IFS guys answering posts about front solid axles, assuming that because they did it to the rear of their truck and are fine, others can do it to the front just as easy. like i said, the front is a whole different ball game.... the geometry of the front axle and suspension yield is much smaller than the rear, so you can't just throw out generic advice.
"i put an 8" shackle on mine and it was fine" answered to a front axle question can have disastrous results to someone that took their advice because they didn't know better. horrible pinion angle, caster way beyond manageable as the wheel returns to center with extra force, drive shaft that binds or even falls apart from not enough extension.... not to mention the disaster as you make your first freeway speed turn, the whole axle shifts to the side with all that extra leverage placed on the shackle bushings, and could very well cause a loss of control.
i don't mean to sound snappy, i just hate it when people give advice that doesn't apply because they didn't really look at the question, or they just want to look like the "know-it-all", padding their post count.

but i put 12in shackles on my 95 IFS pu with great results?? haha jk chop shop i had to. good point you got there.
to the OP- check out topguncustomz.com. you could get a AAL about 50 bucks. or you could go ahead and get a rough coutry 3in susp lift fro a little coin. another option is a body lift. you wont die or explode and self destruct mode will not kick in if you install a BL. yes.. i said body lift, let the debate begin....

^x2, though you dont need that much lift to clear 37's..
and even though welded front works, its still gay.. if you wheel hard enough you will eat birfs for breakfast!
nice to see someone with some spirit though got any pics?

my apologies to the original poster, this garbage doesn't normally take place in threads in our pre-84 section.
yada21, please keep your pads to the off-topic section, you are cluttering up threads with completely irrelevant information to the original topic.
thanks for cleaning up the thread, robb.
