Rough idle when engine is cold

Have a '83 long bed w/22R that has been a trusty friend over the years. Have a problem where the engine idles roughly (like the choke is sticking) when it is cold. After the engine warms up (about 15 minutes), if I turn off the engine and leave it sit for about 4 or 5 minutes and turn it back on, it runs *PERFECTLY* and idles like a purring cat! If I leave it off for less than 4 minutes and start it up, it idles roughly ... the same goes if I do not leave it warm up sufficiently before cycling the engine. Any idea what it could be?
