Good call, but I don't think he is quite at that level of fab skill at the moment.

I would suggest you clean it up with a grinder/sander and then have it looked at by someone who CAN weld and see if they will slap some plate over or cut out the sections and like he said reweld in all new sections.

Maybe you could post pics so we could see how bad and where it is...?

Take it easy, and congrats on finally getting the truck.

I've got to fix my frame.

Getting rid of the rust, putting 1/8" thick plate in behind and welding it and then I'll box it in with 1/8" plate again.

The 1st gen truck frame is 1/8" think btw.

Tony,

I am pretty sure the 1st gen is 3/16th or maybe my '81 is a fluke...?
Are you going to use flat steel or angle steel?

I was told 1/8" by someone. Of course it's on the internet so that could be wrong. I'll have to bust out my verner and measure it.

I'll be using flat steel.

yeah i have been down this road....
i am getting ready to redo the floor of the cab.

just make sure you take your time or have someone who knows what they are doing fix it. nothing worse than a hack job that you have to fix later, again.
