Marlin Shifter seat/bushing doesn't seem to fit.

I bought the white shifter seat and cup from Marlin. I installed the shift seat ok, but its to tall to allow the shifters metal cup to lock in the pins now (so I can't re-install the shifter). And the small white bushing or cup that I also got doesn't fit the lower opening. Not sure what to do now, anyone run into this problem? Or is the old 4spd just the one trans the shift seat and bushing don't work for?

You can sort of see the white shift seat is to close to the pins now to allow the shifter to be locked down

shift bushing compared to the size of the opening below

the shift bushing doesnt snug fit the shift nob either

Wow, same issue as MaximRecoil...I wonder if somebody got batches mixed up over at Marlin or something. If you go into the "Product Support" section of the Marlin forum you'll see his post there. Same exact issue as you.

My Marlin tranny came with both, and they fit perfectly. Mines an L52 though. I'd get on the marlin site and ask the question there. With two posts about the same exact problem it aught to get their attention. Sometimes they're a little slow to finally chime in..

Pre 84 probably is why. You should call MC and ask them.

interesting...i wonder if it has something to do with them being side shift. I ordered mine on friday, should be here soon. Mine is top shift though...if mine doesn't fit Marlin must have some QC issues, because it seems with my last few orders have gotten hosed.

The top shifts are fine with the seat he said. Its just the side shift L43's that have this problem. I wish the site said that and not "all toyota applications." I'm gonna modify the outer rim on the seat so it lets the cup lock on again, hopefully it still has the same effect on the shifting.

I had the exact same problem with mine. They should say on the site that the side shifter is an exception. Now I have a socket and seat I cant use.....

Well they do sell the correct l43 socket, but stupid me ordered the "all other toyota application" one without even noticing the special l43 one. So now I do have two useless pieces. But they should definitely change the seat description to say "does not include l43"
