Hard starting 83

If I crank it everyday I have to hit the gas about 4 times. If it sits for a week about 10 times to get it started. I just let it sit for 2 weeks and kept pumping the gas about 20 times and it still would't crank? I shot some starting fluid in it and it fired up like a new one?

Hold the pedal to the floor and crank it, its probably flooded. Mine does the same thing, its the Power valve in the very bottom of the carb, it sticks open and whatever fuel left in the float bowl slowly seeps down into the intake. I can pump the gas 1/4 way down repeatedly while cranking and it starts but then I have to hold it too the floor to clear it out.. after that it runs fine.

Actually mine does exactly what yours does. I have found that the gas evaporates from the float bowl, and you have to crank it over to pump the fuel because it is a mechanical fuel pump, to fill the float bowl.
