cutting a 1st gen bed
Is cutting a 1st gen bed sacrilegious?
'81 pick-up with a bed that I would consider serviceable with minimal rust and dents
All I want to use are the bed sides as skins..but I would rather not go to toyota hell doing it. What are your thoughts?

Plenty people cut these beds. It always sucks to see these old trucks getting cut up, but no, it's not sacrelidge. If it's your truck, do what you want with it, but if you can find another bed in worse shape to cut up, maybe do that and save a nice one.
For most people, unless the only thing they spend money on is their truck, the fiberglass beds are just too expensive (but totally worth the cost IF you can afford it). I really do hope to have one one day though.

I'm not dead set on even running skins, the plan was to build a tube flat bed but skin it with the bed sides. The fiberglass is nice but on the pricey side, plus the shipping has to be a headache.
what is a 1st gen bed worth?
I guess I could get some other things I've been wanting?
pm me if you are interested.
