My alt isnt charging my battery so i thought it went out. went and got it checked and its charging 14 volts. my regulator had some bad wires so i replaced the whole thing. it still isnt wanting to charge my battery.

Are you sure you got the right alternator?
'81's and I'm assuming 80's as well originally didn't have a voltage regulator in the alternator (hence the external regulator).
I had a similar issue but found that the alternator was for an '86, and had an internal voltage regulator. I ended up having to use the connector from the external voltage regulator as a splice to charge the battery, bypassing the external regulator.
