83 Toyota Dolphin Motorhome: Axle

I was wondering if anyone has a lead on where I can find a 6 lug dually HD rear axle and wheels for this truck. I heard there was a big Toyota recall and any leads on if this can be done with success would be awesome.
Thanks! Vince

You just need to keep an eye on craigslist and look at junkyards. Posting an ad in the classifieds is probably a good idea, too.

You are correct. Up until 86, they weren't one ton, or dually (unless someone already swapped them out). There wasn't a recall, exactly, but yeah, they decided the wheels that were on the campers were not safe.

Great.

Are you doing the swap yourself?

Not too sure... I got the axle, 7 wheels, front hubs and all the hardware including front spindles, breaks and leaf springs off of a low mile camper. I am from Alberta and got it shipped to the MT border. I am heading down to great falls to pick up the oddball 185R14 8 ply D rated tires.

Good, you're getting new, and correct tires.

So you're headed to Falls? (my friend who lived there called it that...couldn't bring herself to put "great" in the name )

Well, good luck! I think there's a thread or two on the toyota motorhome site people posted of them doing the swap. Might be helpful if you decide to do it yourself.

Thanks. I looked and didn't seem to find anything. If you come across it feel free to repost. Cheers.
