82 22r fuel cut solenoid...seeking advice

Let me start off by saying that I realize that this is a common problem and I have searched all over the internet and in this forum to find a solution. I have a 1982 with the standard 22r equipped with a stock carb. The carb is brand new and everything has been tuned. This is the problem I am having...Usually, the truck runs and idles great. But sometimes, usually after a long trip down the road at high speeds(55-60mph) for 10 minutes or so, the truck will stop idling. It always happens that first time a coast to an idle and the problem stick around for awhile. Today, after this happened, I popped the hood and cycled the fuel cut solenoid by putting 12v to it about 10 times. After that, the truck idled fine and I know its just a matter of time before it happens again. Any advice is appreciated and thank you for your time.

I ended up pulling the ground wire on my old 83 and connecting it straight to the negative battery terminal. There's a thread on here about it, somewhere...

Mine would, every now and then, not idle unless I kept my foot on the gas. It was the fuel cut solenoid ground causing the issue.

Yes, I have a 82 SR5 Hilux with 22R, and my cutoff solenoid got so bad the truck would start lurching violently even at freeway speeds. It started out as a mere won't hold idle at stop problem. I took it to the carburetor shop that rebuilt the carb years ago after buying the truck, and they said the cutoff solenoid was bad and that the part isn't made anymore. I verified this through extensive searching online. They said they could bypass the solenoid, something they've done many times in such situations. I haven't had the problem since. In our state, it's also no problem to bypass the EGR with a block plate kit, which I did myself. The only sputtering I've ever had was caused by the head over 240,000 miles needing resurfacing (was off .007). Now the thing runs great and will likely go to 400,000 mi easy.
