22r with lots of blow by.
My 79 yotas only has 25,000 on a rebulid and it has tons of blow by. I know that im eventually going to have to tear it down and rebuild it. But i was wonding if any body has any quick fixes to get rid of the cloud. I routed the vent on top of the of the valve cover down below the motor, but it still blow a big cloud and the PCV is hooked up. I thought 22r were supposed to last forever but i guess not.

More than likely it's going to get worse. When the engine was rebuilt was it a good machine shop that rebuilt it, or a guy who said I can do it for you cheap? If all of the measurements we not taken correctly the problem could get worse. If he put the original pistons back in after the block was bored over that could be one problem. Another would be the ring groves in the pistons themselves. Over time they open up and if the new rings were not checked in the piston ring grooves and the gap was excessive they would eventually break in place. One other possibility was if the ridge at the top of the cylinder was not properly removed and honed, the rings could make contact and break. Do a compression check and see if it's just on cylinder giving you a problem or all. Don't give up on the 22R they are good engines and can take abuse.

i had some blow by on a 83 22r it kept getting worse and worse and now that motor no longer sits in my rig best to fix it ASAP. it blew out the rear seal just outside of chehalis and got me for a pretty spendy tow bill. The motor still ran but woudl not hold a qaurt of oil tough little buger. turns out the block was bored over and the rings were shot its headed to the 22R graveyard soon.

Thanks for your imput guys! I kinda figured i was just gonna have to rebuild it.
I just recently bought the truck and the guy i bought it from told me his friend rebuilt it for him. So who knows what he did and there were no receipts.
The motor doesnt seem to have any knocks or other noises, But i guess a total rebuild is in order just to be on the safe side. And for the guys who didnt know. Blow by is when the piston rings are warn out and the exhaust goes down into the crank case. It can cause seals to go out and all sorts of other stuff. If any of that sounds wrong please correct me. Im going to do a compression test tonight and i'll let you know what i find out.
