Okay, i've never changed a clutch out before but I'm gonna do it anyway and I'm going to have a good time doing it! But before I start smashing my knuckles and crushing my spirits I have a very BIG question! I've currently got a 20R from a Celica in my 2WD Pickup, BUT I'm going to want to swap that same 20R into a 4WD soon, is it the same clutch for both? I've seen a few clutch kits that specify 2WD or 4WD, what's the difference? More grab? Harder pull? I'm going to keep the 20R in my 2WD until the swap happens later on this summer so would a 4WD clutch serve the same purpose in my 2WD for the time being? Thanks in advance,

Oh and a little add in question about the clutch. It slips like a banana peel on a waxed floor. It engages just fine, I just don't go anywhere. It's been on the way out for quite some time, really noticed it going up hills, engine revs high but the truck slows down.. What parts are more than likely FUBAR'd in there? Is it just going to be the clutch disc or should I just man up and do the whole thing seeing as I have it open anyway? Oh yeah.. will just taking the glaze off of the flywheel with some AL/Ox sandpaper be enough if the wheel isn't in bad shape? Again thanks for digesting my noobness

if the clutch still has "feel"(takes usual pressure to push it in) but it's slipping badly, it's the clutch disk. usually a good idea to just replace the whole deal in one swoop -- how often do you like dropping your tranny? i'd get the flywheel resurfaced by a reputable shop, most run around $20 or less. some of the better parts stores(carquest comes to mind) will resurface the flywheel at a discount price if you buy your clutch through them.

and the clutch application depends on what tranny you use -- the flywheel is the same between 2wd and 4wd, but depending on the transmission, the clutch set may require a different fork and throwout bearing, maybe even disk and pressure plate. compare your trannies and see.

Both Transmissions are L43's. The frame is a 1979 SWB, which is the same transmission as my 77 Hilux, but then you already knew that... Thanks Kyle! When I eventually have to hop up my current 20R I will more than likely do a 22R/20R hybrid too, but I'll drive the original 20R till she pukes Oh and Kyle, could you send me some pics someday of your '79? I want to try and get this truck I'm building as close to original as possible and there aren't many '79's around! Thanks again

when you switch the engine you'll need a 4x4 oil pan. my 81 4x4 had a 2wd pan on it when i bought it and it was smashed ny the front pumpkin when the suspension flexed.

just letting you know. i have all the body parts you'll need + a bunch of the chrome versions of the white wheels on your truck.

the truck looks like a decent starting point
