1st Gen Bumper options??
I have an 83' 4WD that I am looking to put a moderately beefy steel front bumper on to replace the temporary factory POS that I put on it to get rid of the 200lb (not joking, I weighed it in at 200 lbs!!) monstrosity that that previous owner slapped on it.
I would like to get something like this Warn 2nd Gen bumper minus the grill guard:
But I can't seem to find anywhere that sells 1st Gen front bumpers. With out without a winch mount doesn't really bother me much since I don't wheel a whole lot and I'm ok with using a good ole fashion come-a-long when I get stuck.
I'm assuming that others have had this dilemma, so I'm reaching out to see what you all have found. Can a 2nd Gen aftermarket bumper like this warn be easily modified to fit a 1st Gen? Does it look/fit right??
Chances are that I'll end up fabbing one if I can't find one that's suitable out there. If I go the fabrication route, does anybody have any suggestions or have any drawings available for welding one up? What are the best bolt-on mounting points without welding directly to the frame?

Mine truck came with a monstrosity front bumper also but I have trimmed it up a little and got some weight off. Mine is bolted with the pins on the front of the front leaf springs. I can take pictures tomorrow if you want to see how its done.

I would check out golden state motorsports. I've seen their bumper on pirate, which I like a lot. also check out CBI offroad fab. I know they make a DIY front bumper for the 1st gen 4runner, I can't see why you couldn't get them to make one for a truck.
Here is an example of the golden state ones

I've also read that modifying a 2nd gen bumper to fit a 1st gen is not easy but doable. I have seen one or two in my time shuffling through toyota forums. Personally I would either get someone to build you a bumper to fit a first gen or go full custom

Ok, so basically nobody makes first gen aftermarket bumpers, so I suppose I'm breaking out the welder! Here's a drawing of what's about to go down...
I'm hoping that a friend of mine can turn my CAD drawing into a 3D rendering so that I can print out stencils of each plate that I need to cut out. If I can do that then I'll be more than happy to share my drawings with you all. I'll be sure to post the final product.

Good luck, and please share pictures of the results! My winch bumper works OK but I don't really like the look. And the person who installed it left the outer parts of the stock bumper in place and that's where the turn signals are. They are not as visible as I would like.

There are still first generation bumbers out there, you just have to search harder. Some companies that produced units in the 1980's still have the patterns / templates and for a premium they might make you a new bumber. A number of Toyota junk yards have non-stock bumbers, again you have to search harder-it will take time. Call LC Engineering, Northwest Off-Road Specialties and other companies that specialize in Toyotas, they might be able to point you in the right direction.
