Annual Tinkham Night Run
It usually takes a few trys to get to the top but due to snowless winter we made it on the first try.
Don't ask me what Mark is doing..... I think Orb hill clamed another...
The Cali transplant.
Mark needed some help due to 4wd issues.
Great view from the top.
Thanks to Rob's kickass star software were able to track the International Space Station and watch it pass by at 9:32pm.

The whole thing started when the first star was visible and we were trying to figure out which planet it was. So Rob grabbed the laptop which has Starry Night on it and positioned it to show the view from the top of Tinkham in real time. After we figured out it was Jupiter that we were seeing Rob stated to show us more features and while in fast forward we noticed an object whizz by. After backing it up to see what it was, thinking it was a satellite, it was the Space Station and at 9:32pm it was going to pass under Jupiter..................I'll be damned if it didn't. It was very visible with the naked eye.

Lookit how much The Hill Climb has changed in two years:
This is from June, 2003: (click for larger pics)
This is from May, 2005:
The angle's not the same, but you can see how much it's been rutted out. Two years ago there was always a discussion about "which line to take". Now (as Rob said the other night) there's only "the" line.

The ruts have gotten deeper and the holes have gotten bigger It's got a ways to go before it's impassable, but it will certainly keep the riff-raff out as it stands now...

I have a vacuum pump around here somewhere, so I can play with the acuator directly.
We (Rob, Brad, Anthony and myself) spent a couple of hours at the top looking at it, found that the inline filter was pretty restrictive and bypassing that made things better but not quite "there". I've had some life stuff to deal with and haven't had a chance to get into it more.
I think it may have started happening when I put the S/C on, but I've had the top end apart a number of times since and I may have just missed a line. I'm not too worried about it, it should be pretty straight-forward to deal with.

I just got in from playing with the vacuum system, the solenoids are working fine according to my hand pump and the diags in the FSM. At this point it looks like it may be the actuator. When I was under the truck the other night, there was a lot of old grease around the area from when I tore a CV boot a few months ago. I'm thinking that it may all just be gummed up.
Fun tech side tip: The vacuum/boost gauge from a S/C install makes a great troubleshooting tool for the vacuum lines. I pulled it off of the boost port, T'd it into the lines to the actuator and was able to verify that I was getting the 20in of required vacuum on the business side of the solenoids.
I'll get under the truck tomorrow or so and start wacking on the actuator itself.
