Computer Microphone

For some reason I can not get my microphone to work on my pc. I want to use it for gaming. I have installed new drivers, tried old ones. Used xp harware test selected the microphone have the volumes up, tried the mic boost. I can not get it to record on the record program or to work in any application that uses a mic. When i do the hardware test the volume bar is "pegged" and the slider moves down to zero and doesnt respond at all. Windows says there is nothing wrong with the hardware or drivers. The mic is new, and works on other pc's

yes, I have actually used a microphone on this computer before. It is realtek ac97 drivers on a gigabyte 81k1100 dual bios motherboard. realtek has some software that shows things are plugged into the spots but says it things might be in the wrong spots. When i put the mic or headphones into the wrong spots it reconizes them as microphones and headphones, but not when they are in the correct jacks. weird huh?

check the volume control on the window side. there's a play back vs recording setting.

Not sure of your software, but also check to see if you have a control panel like I do for my Creative Audigy 2 ZS.

Look at the far right, it should be set to mic.
Whenever I use my TV tuner card to record a show, it reverts it back to analog mix line in as seen in the picture, and it disables my mic and no one can hear me then in TeamSpeak.

I have to fire up the mixer here and change the setting back to mic.

I had gotten an email responce from realtek customer support and we desided it was bad. And since my mobo is otherwise spectacular I went ahead and purchesed a Creative Audigy 2 like corey has. Now I wish I had nice speakers to play things through..... Too bad I like to game with head phones on

i kinda had the same problem. I thought my soundcard went down the pooper. I ended up uninstalling it and then re-installing it and now it works great! glad you found a solution to your problem!

What games do you play?

Cool, you got the ZS 2 version right?
What I like about it too is you can go to Creatives website and do auto update on the software for it.

It is one of the best gaming cards out now, but they also just released the new Audigy 4 line (Creative X-Fi).
What is better with the Audigy 4 line is better headphone support.

I have been all about Day of Defeat source lately... I probably log the most hours playing counterstrike. Play some Battle field and Americas Army, but only every so often because I get tired of them a little more easily for some reason.
