Antenna mounted up, pics inside
Okay well go easy on me, it was the 1st try. I like the way its setup but I am doing it wrong I just know it. I couldnt find anywhere to mount it where it would be on metal. So I grounded it with a wire. I think I should be using a "no ground" antenna maybe. I am going to test the ground on it later on today. I checked it and got a response and the guy said it sounded good, we were only about a 1/2 mile apart and I lost him quick. Here are the pics, this thing is friggin tall!! I am definatley not sure its going to stay here, but its a nice clean spot for it.

18 views an nothin! common yotatech, well I got another radio check tonight and got responses from two or three others from home based CB's I think. Both about 1.5 miles away in different directions so that was good. threads sure arent as fun when your the only one in em. Hey brian (epic) thanks again for giving me that CB.

by the way the higher up you go the better off you are. Center of the vehicle is pretty good.

Something to remeber :
If you live in an area where rain and/or sleet is common, wipe your antenna down with a rag that has been coated with WD-40, Armor-All, Pledge, light oil, etc. This trick prevents ice build up that can overload and cause your antenna to break. In an emergency use butter, cooking oil or anything else that will repel water.

yeah its just too big for the drive thru. i smacked the 9ft clearance sign and watched the antenna wobble for a few mins.

Your set up looks pretty good for range. The best is always going to be on the center of your roof, but that always looks lame IMO 
If you want the best range and don't need it all the time you could look at magnetic antennas that you'd throw up there when you want it, so drive thru’s and parking garages aren't a problem.
I also kind of wonder if the mounts on your wind deflector can handle that extra stress from your antenna at hwy speeds. I don't have a wind deflector so if it’s not a problem, I'll shut up.
Looks like it work pretty well though.

Yeah thats what I am wondering. They seem to hold up well. I have used them to pull myself up onto the bumper before. Yes not the smartest thing to do. It seems stable though. I really like the spot its in, the only other place I might move it to is By the tailgate, obviously that will be lower then.

Look into a quick disconnect and you'd have the drive thru problem solved.
