Car Audio

Well its that time to start looking for a car audio system I was thinking about an Alpine head unit, polk audio mids\highs, not sure about the amp or sub yet. Sub wise, I want something that will crank out the looow notes and play loud when needed I was thinking about either 1 12" or 1 15" I need something that won't take up much space either. I've been checking out the Kicker L7 series, JL Audio w6/w7 series, and the Image Dynamics line of subs. Amp wise for the one sub I've been looking at the JL Audio 500/1. Any suggestions anyone?

If you want real loooooooooooow, it's hard to beat a 15" JL W6.
I have one, and it's very deep.

2x12's will give you perhaps more volume, and clearness, but not as low of a punch as the 15" will.
Take a look at my stereo page and you can see my setup.
It rocks.

Although one day I'm going to take out my door speakers and replace them with Focal's or anotehr highend 6.5" component.

The 15 does take up a bit of room, but less than 2x12's would in a box.

Build a false floor in the back... it'll help hide the subs/amps, and make it feel like you lost a lot less space than you really did. Then put in one 15 (for the real lows) and two 10s.

Corey, Is your box sealed or ported? Also how many cubic feet is your box? I've heard that ported boxes create deeper lows depending on what they are tuned at.

It is sealed. I got the instructions off of Sound Streams website for the 15" sub I use to run.
I had Cartoy's build me the box per spec.

When they loaded the sub in there, they noticed it rattling.
It is a duel voice coil, and one was blown.

So out it came, and the JL W6 went in.
Cartoy's warned me I'd blow it in that 2nd box you see on my site.
I was only powering it with my smaller amp, and they said too small of an amp will ruin the sub.
Well, they were right.
The boxes dimensions worked out perfect for the JL as well.

One day I'll get the sub rebuilt from the factory, as it is a good sub.

I might go with 1 12". I was looking real hard at the L7 Kickers and either a 12w7 or w6 by JL audio. I can't make up my mind!!!
