If you need computer help/repair...

Just wanted to let you guys/gals know that I am a computer technician.

I am a senior systems engineer for a large Pharmacuetical company. I am Dell Certified also.

If you need help I do fixing and consulting on the side. My main business is repairs, upgrades, and setting up home networks.

So if you have computer problems give me a call. I live in the Fort Worth/Dallas area.

David

NX, Jay registered here, oh, probably over a year ago. He announced that he's an ASE Certified Master Technician working at a Toyota dealership and generously offered to help. I remember thinking at the time "this guy doesn't know what he's in for". Sure enough, poor Jay was inundated with requests for help. I guess it understandably got to be overwhelming and we didn't see much of him after a few months. I was thinking DavidA might be in for the same ride.

NXTacoma, call Dell to get the administrator password and have them walk you through the admin logon. I have a crack for Windows NT passwords, but not for XP right now.

BT17R:
I would be more than happy to walk you through a format.

This is a very aggravating problem. The files I burn stay in the active file, they don't go away like they should. So, every time I burn a file it stays in there and burns everytime I burn a new file.

Could you please help me?

Sounds like you are using the native Windows XP burning software integrated into Windows. I don't like it either.

I strongly recommend if you are burning alot of CD's to get a package like NERO Burning Rom or Roxio Easy CD Creator. They will give you the flexibility to create custom "images" of data and documents. Including the "flushing" of the burn queue. The integrated queue in XP is not really meant for business or duplicating use to me.

I may have some work for you. I built a computer for my fiance a little over a year ago. A few months ago she got some crazy virus that messed with the BIOS. Her IDE slots have switched and I just don't feel like changing out the MB. We both use laptops as out main PCs but we're wanting to host a website soon. I could fix it myself but like I said I'd rather not. What would you charge to change out the MB?

It's a
p4 2.4 gig
512 3200 ram
two 7200 rpm 60g hard drives
54g wireless nic
Vodoo Graphics card (Forgot the model)
Sound Blaster sound card
I believe that's it.

Any way, what would you charge? I'd buy the new MB.

I usually charge $75 to $100 for a complete system build. I would move your components over to the new board, reload the Operating system,(Cause XP will consider the Motherboard as a change in more than 3 components and will crash and burn), and load all the utilities required. Usually takes about 3-4 hours. Oh....FYI, give me a holler before you buy the motherboard. I might be able to save you alot of money or get something better.
