Importing an older double-cab?

First post!

Is there a way to get an older (84-88) double cab into the U.S.? Or, has anyone tried to fab thier own?

The 2001's and newer Tacoma quad-cabs are too expensive for my plans. I searched Google for days and found very little. Just some good photos.

Any input? Thanks.

Not many replies. I guess I'll have to go the hard way, and make one.

you may want to try Australia. I know I saw a couple new HiLux's down there.

Yes, it's possible. Bud @ Budbuilt imported 1/2 a cab from OZ a few years ago. I had an OZ cab lined up via JD (thanks again, JD!) in '01 but the wrecker ended up damaging it before shipment.

Expect to pay $2-3K for a good cab. Expect another $2-3K for shipping. Yes, you read that right... 2-3K for shipping. Then add another $1K or so to make it work/get it painted, etc.

I gave up after the cab was damaged and the (then) wife found out how much it was going to cost to ship. Good luck!
