I bought my 92 4runner back in February 2009 for only $1000 from a guy who didnt need it anymore and was just sitting along the side of his house for a few months but was a pretty good deal! It had I believe 220000 miles on it at the time and had the V6. The only problems with it was that the 4 wheel drive wasnt working, needed new battery, interior needed work and the exterior had problems but it ran just fine.
Heres how it looked a couple days after I bought it:
1st replaced the battery and did a basic tuneup.
After that the next thing I wanted to do was replace the ripped up leather seats that were in it when I bought it and found a set of great looking grey cloth seats on craigslist for $250.
Next I replaced my beatup bondoed tailgate for one that was in better condition and happen to be the same color. I also replaced my broken bug shield with a newer one.
After a couple months of driving it around I finally decided it was time to replace the old factory radio and speakers. First I replaced my factory deck with a sony xplod cdxg720 which was only around $130 shipped.
Next was the factory speakers which I replaced the fronts with some JBL's and replaced the back ones with Infinity's which helped out a lot but was still missing something...
Got a good deal on the subs, amp and box which was brand new for only $300 out the door.
After I was happy with the way the sound system sounded I thought it would be a good idea to get my 4 wheel drive fixed. Took it to the local Toyota dealership and ended up spending $250 to replace the vaccum pump which fixed the 4 wheel drive!
Next the running boards came off as well as painting my stock wheels flat black
Eager to test out the 4 wheel drive I found a mud pit as well as a few trails while we were out camping
Future Mods
Lockers
New front and rear bumpers
Lift
CB
