Faithful Ol' Blue (86Original profile)

This has been my vehicle since it had 11 miles on it. We put 7 of those 11 on it test driving. My father thought I was crazy buying a new "expensive" vehicle when I wasn't even finished with college. Twenty-two years and 286,000 miles later, he's asking me when I'm going to give up on it . I still have the factory window sticker!

22RE (EFI)
W56 5-speed manual
A/C (converted to R134 refrigerant)
Chrome package (most has been replaced with offroad gear)

Modifications
Most mods were done between Oct. 2005 and Sept. 2006, except for the engine & exhaust ('03), and as noted.

Montezuma Basin with my dad & his Rubicon:

July 2006

Going over Jaws 1 on Blanca Peak road. See and hear my idler arm bending as my passenger-side tire wobbles around.

Another video of Jaws 2 where you can hear my idler arm snap. Or you can watch the hi-lights of all of the road on a low-res WMV video (5.85MB, 3:37). Fortunately, I had a spare idler arm. Came home and ordered the Downey idler arm brace. We'll see how that holds up.

Moab, UT
Descending to the gully that leads up to Hell's Gate on the Hell's Revenge trail in Moab, UT, is a challenge in itself. Here's a video (MP4, 13.7MB, 2:15) of going down and back up the approach pitch to Hell's Gate. (Sorry, it was shot by my 12-year-old, who's still learning about videography.) No one in our group had done it before, let alone the actual Hell's Gate. There are many videos on the web of people driving Hell's Gate. The most famous is Tracy(?) rolling her Heep TJ at the '02 Jeeps Unlimited.

MP4 Video Playing hint:
Use QuickTime 6+ or RealPlayer 10.5+ to play the MP4 files, if you don't already have a default player for MP4.

Golden Crack

Golden Stairs

Ledge between G-Stairs & Double Whammy (Body Snatcher?)

Moab Rim:

Going up the lower part of Z-turn. Had to winch off the base of a tree to get above this w/o risking a tipover. Camera has been tilted to make it appear more level than it is.

Coming down the upper part of Z-turn

Going down the lower part of Z-turn, in the same location as the picture above. You get a better idea of the angle in this one, although I think the camera is still tilted, so it looks more level than it is.

Newer Pictures

Time to update with a few new pictures from the trip to the Maze District of Canyonlands NP.

Doll House camp spot 2 the first night. Slept under the stars. Beautiful walls to the "room". Dad's new red "Rubi".

On the trail out to Maze Overlook, the second day. This was the end of an alcove canyon off of Horse Canyon. My son having a "peek" over the edge...
