trd taco rear end?

i'm getting interested in getting a e-locker for my truck eventually. however, i'd also like a wider axle. i've heard that the tacoma with an e-locker has an 8" diff...i've found a few on car-part.com(more than i've found 4runner axles, and generally cheaper). i think they used 3.58 gears? is the the same old 8" diff as the 3rd gen 4runner with the locker?

hmm...sounds interesting. that's why i was thinking about the taco housing, since it's already set up for leafs(not sure if the perches are spaced right though)

redoing the stud holes and modifications to a housing aren't out of my reach, and i'm second in line at an '85 front and '90 rear, both rebuilt for 250$. if i get it i'll just sell the front and keep the rear for my truck, and make back what i paid for it

the tacomas and t100's have an 8.4" diff, although stronger, it doesnt have nearly the aftermarket support yet of the 8" axles (lockers, gearing, etc)

tacomas with elocker have the 8" diff. (same as the 4Runner, early Toy V6 diff)

tacomas without the e-locker have the 8.4" diff. an ARB RD89 air locker is avail for that diff.

just for clarification.

MOST e-locked taco's came with 4.10's. Some had 4.56's, and some had other weird things like 4.30's. Basically, if its a pre-01 axle it will most likely have 4.10's.

The Tacoma housing will bolt up to your springs just fine, with a few minor issues. Be sure to get the e-brake cable, u-bolts & plates, etc. from the Tacoma axle, yours won't work. Also, the bracket for the LSPV is on the opposite side, you will need to weld on a new one to hook up to your valve. The e-brake cable will also need to be reversed but it is a fairly simple task as well.
