Just to be clear, they are not "the same". They are a knock-off and from what I hear, they are more directional and are not as bright.

But you are correct, they are less cash.

No, not exactly the same. They say they have a 160 degree beam though, thats hardly directional and LED brightness is very consistant to the rated output. I'm not trying to knock Roundeyes or yourself, but someone somewhere is making a lot of money.

Interesting FYI, did you know there is no such thing as a white LED? They are actually blue LEDs with a photo-sensitive chemical coating that glows white when blue and violet light is applied to them. That is why white almost always cost more than other colors.

I am not going by what "they say". Folks on other forums have put them side by side and compared the difference. I have seen the photos.

The range on the chinese knock-offs is closer to 100* and those who have seen them side by side say they seem to be a bit more than half as bright as the more expensive version.

If you don't like the price, don't buy. But you DO get what you pay for. Don't believe every advertising claim you read on the internet.

I had asked Roundeyes about them several weeks ago and here was their reaction;

Hi Rob,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
They are a different LED altogether. They claim 160 degrees dispersion but in reality, it’s only about 90 to 100 degrees. They give out a spot/dot more than an even glow.<o:p></o:p>

We use the Luxeon LED. Theirs is a Chinese LED and I believe won’t last the 50000 hours they claim because the circuitry is located under the LED making it thicker and hotter which will kill an LED’s life span. Hence our circuitry/resistor on the wire away from the LED. Basically a stolen product/knockoff from what I was told.<o:p></o:p>

Let me know if you have other questions!
The spread and brightness was later confirmed by folks who had them side by side. The lifespan is still unproven.

It sounds like the off road section is going to stay, so lets put it here for now.
