I'm too cheap to get sway bar disco's from "wab fab" and so i thought of permanently removing the front sway bar off of my 4runner. I have drove with it disconnected on the street before and i do notice a difference in corning but i am not a street racer by any meens, In fact i usually cruise it from point A to B. So i figure when I'm on the street, if i drive a bit conservative i'll be just fine.

please tell me if you've done this before or if you think it is ok!!

I would say its fine if you drive like n old lady,(i do too). I am sure you will get used to it. I may do that soon, as my 33's rub a but on mine at a full crancked slow turn. Do you have it in the rear axle too?

i ran no sway bar up front since ive owned my runner but i was a bit scared to pull off the rear one for street use

The PO removed both anti-sway bars from my '95. I experience a lot of body roll, but I figured it was just how the body rolled in a 2nd gen 4runner until I looked more closely under the truck 3 weeks after I bought it. Im used to it. I never make a turn over 25mph though

Thanks " Teuf " yeah, i only have just the front sway bar disconnected. I have never done the back end since i am satisfied with how much it flexes with the OME 890 coils out back !!

You can make discos for under $30... why risk it? I don't. 4Runners are top heavy, I've flopped mine once, during the only 2 weeks of ownership that I've had the one of the bars (the rear) removed. I can disco and reco my front swaybar in under a minute.

If you are taking the front off, you might as well the the rear one off too. just my opinion

Whoa there! In my experience, there was a much bigger difference between rear only and none than there was both to rear only.

I would recommend leaving the rear swaybar on. Not much difference offroad, pretty big difference on road

Agreed, the cornering improvements outweigh any increase in articulation you'll get.

My front sway bar snapped at the end links. Have not replaced it nor bothered. I drive lots of highway miles and normal street with no ill effects.

I still do have the rear sway bar though with polyurethane bushings.

I took both mine off , no problems cornering , of course it is an SUV not a race car.

Sorry, I got to disagree big time. Removing the front is noticeable, and won't be a problem in daily driving unless you have to make a sudden lane change, the rear is REALLY noticeable and makes the already top heavy 4Runner noticeably tippy. Taking the rear off also made the front flex less (worse off road). The rear has a tendency to do all the flexing while the front stays rigid, take the rear bar off and you only exacerbate that.

The shocks are the limiting factor in rear flex, not the swaybar.

I'm going to agree with Matt16. disconnecting front and rear together equals bad can of worms. I noticed with my 3" lift and stock 265/70R16 tires and only the front disconnected, i noticed that my truck was unsafely tippy off road! Let's just say that the pucker factor was real high!! I like being able to flex my suspension but it's not worth flopping your rig over onto its side. Especially when the body panels and paint are still in great shape.

sway bars are for cars and sissies. I pick tire all the time around tight corners, but I am not scared of rolling at all, just because I know what to expect in the handling of my car.

Took my front off, and it was a little weird at first but not unsafe. The difference in swaybar on/off is much more pronounced on my 4R than it was on my 85 3/4ton GMC, and even more pronounced on my buddies XJ! He says he will never drive on road with them disconnected. Dont know if all this is the difference between torsions/leafs/coils or the weight of the vehicles or what, but different vehicles react differently (duh).

I removed mine on my 85 4runner and it rolls a little but it just makes driving feel like a roller coaster, adds a little flair to the usually dull comute!
