Gas charged vs. Hydraulic Shocks

Are the gas/nitrogen charged shocks really that much better? And how so?

Hydraulic systems are very delicate and often very complicate to deal with. An important thing to do is to keep always clean the little parts of the system as in the case of overcentre valves otherwise the engine will never work perfectly.
