I'm putting the rears up front in my 83. I know that I'll have driveshaft issues when I'm done. Using Waggy springs now and it seperates when really flexed. My question is what kind of driveshaft mods are most of you running. I aint that crazy about the square tubing d-shaft. Would just the longer spline kit be anough to fix this when the rears are in? Or, would I have to have it lengthened also?

just measure the length .....flange to flange...and call up High Angle Driveline. They will ship you a new d-shaft. They take you core too.

You might be able to find a dealer near you....don't know where you are.....I got mine from Marlin....
I have 9012 shocks and I can disconnect my shackle and drop the axle all the way down to the end of shock extension and the d-shaft is still connected. When everything is installed, i still have about 4-5inch of compression.

how much was the D-shaft from high angle. Kinda on a budget. Trying to build this by Memorial Day weekend. And I still have lots to do (4.7's some 35's maybee a front Aussie locker and hopefully some Bilstein 5100's) By the way, how are those Marlin arms treating you. My hy-steer is waiting to be put on.

It depends on the length you need. I think mine was around 250.
Love the hysteer. My truck rides better than when it was IFS.

250 for a d-shaft doesn't sound that bad. the spline kit alone is 190. so that might be an idea. Trying to do this thing right the first time. I have a brother who says a Jeep is the ultimate off road vehicle. So there is this sibling rivalry thing going on over here. Plus the fact he thinks I don't know a thing bout building a good 4x4. HAHAHA we'll see bro.

marlin set you up with a High Angle DS or set you up with a slip shaft kit? I'm a bit confused? $250 for a DS doesn't seem that bad at all, if I have the $$$ left over I might give Marlin a call myself.

I had my local driveshaft shop build me a long travel shaft with off-the-shelf parts (Spicer, Neapco) and it works fine, ran a bit over $300. Also had 2 spares built by a shop in Paradise CA (shop run by the father of Jesse at High Angle) and they ran about $300/ea. The HighAngle style shafts use an agricultural PTO spline, so its not the tightest fit. Works fine on the trail but can tend to vibrate a little on the road at high speed. The long travel splines are built for use on driveshafts and tend to run smooth at speed.

So you would recomend getting a long travel spline from Marlin or someplace and then just have one built?? If High Angle tends to vibrate I don't want that, I have enough wobble with these worn down MT/R's.

All depends on your needs. If you want to be able to drive 50+ in 4WD or at least with the front hubs locked, then get a "real" slip yoke, they use a finer spline and have seals and are precision fit to run tight and smooth. If you only need the front shaft for off-road use or only for low speed use, then get the ag-spline type. I have some of each, two main shafts are real slip yokes and my two spares are ag-splines. I've never put one of them on to test it out, but may stick one up front this summer. My spare shafts are built to fit on either end of the truck, short enough for the front and enough extension to handle the back.

Cool, well I guess I'll be calling Marlin and finding me a good DS shop around here this summer. <--- when budget will allow a lift and a driveshaft. :cry:

A local DS shop lengthened and install longer slip joints in my shafts for $250 ea. No problems with them, no shipping charges either.
