cable puller/hoist
do many winchless guys use a cable puller?
im looking to get one to hold me over for awhile and this northern tool one looks to be of good quality.

just curious if anyone finds them really useful and could get you out of most things if needed.
i searched around and only found one thread where a guy had bought one from costco and another guys said yeah it helped me a few times...
thanks

I carry one since I'm too cheap to buy a winch. Worked okay on a loose off-camber trail (whoops). I wouldn't trust it in a mud pit.
For that price...seems hard to beat. Especially at 4 ton.

I used one of these and thought it was a piece of ÅÅÅÅ, the cable isn't long enough and once you get enough preasure on the device it gets very hard to rachet it in
just my opinion though

I have been offroading for a while and I had an 83 fullsize blazer I carried a 4ton us come along hand winch whatever you chose to call it and it would pull me out of anywhere just buy a good quality one and some extra wire rope to extend its reach make sure it is rated for the pull.

I'm too cheap to buy a winch too. After throwing a rod in my 87 4-runner, and leaving it stuck at haspin acres overnight, I bought an 8,000 pound come-a-long from Tractor supply to get it out. It's the biggest one they have, cost $178 bucks. Alot of them may say 4,000 or 8,000 pounds, but you need one with a thick cable, and a long handle. Mine works great, I would get one with a pulley on it, don't get a single line pull. I can only ratchet about 5-6 feet at a time though.
