Bearing Splitter for Ring/Pinion Instal

I'm looking at bearing splitters, but with the cost between a small (0-2.5") and a medium (0-4.25") being around 60 bucks, can i get away with a splitter that has a max diameter of 2.5 inches for my R&P install?

I don't think the 2.5" one will be big enough....see this

Thank you so much. I've been running all over town, and haven't found anything less than like 70 bucks for one that size. Awesome!
