ok now back on track i would like to put on 35s with minumum fender trimming as i like my truck looking somewhat nice (ie not crooked fenders or nothing) i found a 4 inch pretty cheap but i would like to find out here that to see if it would work instead of picking a fender or 2 up off the road after hitting a bump (probably exagerating here but you know what i mean) basically im wondering how much of a lift should i get if if i want my 35 not to hit fenders and would i have to do also to keep them from rubbing the springs or frame, maybe post some pics of your rigs (with short description ie, lift, tires size, wheel spacers, fender trimming ect please)

With a 4" lift, you'll clear 35's fine. I have a third gen also, with 3" lift in front I clear 35" KM2s and only trimmed the very front of the fenders due to moving the front axle fwd. my rear lift is chebby 63's with a 1" block. Front and back clear fine, super flexy, and no bump stops. I have no expirience with the Trail Master kits, I know they've been around for quite a while, since loke the 70s, so they can't be THAT bad.
Your poor 22re is gonna be hurting on hills with 4.88's and 35's. I suggest 5.29's for anything 35's or bigger. Especially if you run bigger rubber down the road. Without a better motor, those 4.88s will hate 36's and up.

Think your underestimating that motor. With proper gearing and engine maintenance that truck will "keep up" just fine. 22re has plenty of pep. Only thing you have to consider when choosing gear ratio's is that most of its pep is above 2800rpms, anything under is alot less power and great for cruising with good mpg.

This is strait out of Pirate's Toyota Bible. Should help with your decision.
Gearing..... with a 4 banger and single case
stock 4.10= 31 or smaller tire
4.88=33 inch tire
5.29= 35 to 38 inch tire.
5.71= NOT RECOMMENDED FOR REAL OFFROAD USE

Yes, spacers for 35's should keep them from rubbing... then again, you should have put 1.5" spacers in the front anyway to match your front axle to your stock rear.I wouldn't space the front any more than 2" on each side. you need your rim mounting location to be between your inner and outter hub bearings, if its out farther than that, youll start eating those bearings up on a daily driver, not to mention the extra stress your putting on your trunion bearings. If your tires still rub with 1.5" spacers, you need different backspaced rims.
You wont regret going to 5.29s the first time. I have a 3.0, 35's, and 4.88's in my daily driver, and its pathetic on hills. its not too bad on the trail having geared dual cases, but I can never run bigger tires because itll be even worse. I wish i had started out with 5.29's. Im just going to go to 1'tons before i would regear my minis.

my truck had to use the 83 rear axle too because it was 2wd with the 7.5 diff
i had to buy new backspaced wheels for my thruck because the first ones i bought hit the tie rods and wouldnt even go on and the back they would rub frame. they were just 31 1050s on a stock toyota wheels of some kind
anyway got my arb today brand new cant wait to install just need to buy 529s now
