diesel tundra coming
I heard a rumor on another BBS that the Tundra will be getting a V-6 diesel. It's 3/4 of the Ford/Navistar 6.0 PSD engine. The 6.0 PSD has gotten off to a shakey start, but it certainly sounds like an interesting idea! I just hope that it's going to be a US market truck, since the US seems to be lacking in diesel powered cars/light trucks compared to other developed countries of the world.

The Tundra line up will get the HINO diesel.
It's a Land-o-the-Rising-Sun company mostly owned by Toyota.
They make BIG trucks and are helping make the future, full size Tundra's.

My buddy is a Toyota Master Mechanic and I have talked to him about this numerous times. There will be a diesel Tundra somewhere in 2006 or 2007. Not sure if it's a V6 or V8 at this point though. I will wanting one of those for sure!

I own a 2002 VW Golf TDI (turbodiesel) and a 1989 Toyota SR5 truck. After owning the VW and loving it and getting 45-50MPG and 700 miles on a single tank of Diesel fuel (~ 15 gallons), all of my future vehicles shall be DIESEL vehicles. No more gassers! Once you convert to Diesel, you stay with Diesel. It really doesn't make sense to go back to anything gasoline-powered.
I love my '89 Yota truck, but I really wish it were DIESEL powered. Now that I have a DIESEL passenger car, I hate gassing up the truck and I hate working on it because it's a gasser. Fortunately, the VW TDI is my daily driver and commuter car. I'd trade the '89 gasser truck in a heartbeat for a Toyota Tundra DIESEL truck. In fact, this is exactly my plan.
Having a DIESEL engine option in Toyota trucks in the USA would definitely make great Toyota trucks even better!
